Summer Fun

This has been a fun summer is so many ways!

In July, my dear husband Max, had a birthday.  It was a special one...but I won't embarrass him by telling his age!  His  brother and sisters took us out to dinner which was so sweet of them.  A good time and good food was had by all...

We've been having a wonderful time babysitting our grandson 3 days a week plus our "Saturday night date" with him.  Cheerios have been VERY popular around the Moser household this summer!

We even bought a little cup with a cover where he can reach in and pull out Cheerios to eat.  He loves that little cup!

My oldest son Michael (known as "Uncle Mike" to Charlie) had a birthday at the end of July. We had a party for him and I'm not sure who had more fun: Mike or Charlie!  He's a wonderful uncle to Charlie.  As a mom, I am allowed to say that Michael is thoughtful, kind, and always so generous to others.  I feel very proud to have him as a son. We had cupcakes at his party with a candle on his:

Also, Charlie and I make a special card for “Uncle Mike”.  On the outside of the card, we glued little squares in the shape of a car and Charlie did some coloring on it:

On the inside, we glued a heart which Charlie colored with crayons:

We glued the shapes on since our Michael is visually impaired and would be able to “feel” the card.

We’ve been having fun in my Summer knitting classes.  Here are some of the projects my students are making:
Peg is working on a jacket with a wonderful cable edging on the sleeves and front of the jacket.

Mary W. is working on her first cardigan sweater…and doing a beautiful job with it!

Joyce is working on the Sampler Scarf.  She’s really having fun with the yarn she’s using that makes wonderful designs in each section of the scarf.

I discovered a wonderful treasure while going through some scrapbooks that I had forgotten I even had!  I found some pictures of my brother and me when we were about 3 years old:

My dad’s parents (we called them “Granddaddy” and “Alma Dear” ) came to Petersburg,Virginia to visit us:

Here Bill and I were riding a stick hobby horse:

Here are Bill and me on the front porch in Petersburg, Virginia:

I was so thrilled to find these pictures!  An unexpected blessing.

Our kitty, Izzie, had a fun summer.  She found various ways of keeping cool—like on top of the TV!:

She also got herself in “trouble” …she just loves tissues and toilet paper!

I finished all my Christmas knitting by mid-August!  Except for 2 “more challenging” projects, most of it was relaxing and fun.  Here is a picture of 2 of my “relaxing” projects:

I also made a pin to go with one of the projects:

And to celebrate my finishing my Christmas knitting, I’m going to share the pattern for the pin with you:

( when you go to the shortcut above, you may experience distortion but that will go away once you down load the patterns.)

Students who weren’t in the Summer classes are starting to sign up for the Fall classes.  It will be such fun seeing them all again!  The Fall classes start in the middle of October so if you’d like to sign up, email me at: notesfromknitclass@gmail.com

Don’t you just love this poster- - it says what I’d like to think my “motto” is!

It was posted on the Facebook page of the yarn shop yarn shop that I went to on our trip to Charlotte in May.  Their website address is http://www.charlotteyarn.com/  .  If you are a “yarnie” like me, pop over to their website, there are lots of fun things to see.  Or, visit their shop if you’re in the Charlotte, North Carolina area.  The store has beautiful yarns, great patterns and sample projects hanging up all around the shop.

Dear Readers,
I hope all of you had a summer filled with lots of fun activities.
Just as ours was filled with many blessings, be sure and take time to count your blessings…

Fondly, Mary

Memories of Mammee and Summer Memories

My great-aunt Mammee taught me to knit when I was 8 years old.  I will be forever grateful to her.  Mammee and Poppie’s house was one of the places where I felt most loved, although I was also very loved at home.
When she passed from this earthly life, she left her engagement ring to me in her will.   I wear it often to honor that dear person who gave me the rich gift of knitting, a gift that has helped me become the person I am now.

A big part of the person I am today is a knitting teacher.  As I looked over pictures of past and present students to make the collage above, my heart is full of love for each student I have taught.
Teaching is another way that I honor Mammee.

My students have been busy this summer.
Faith finished her “Faith's Gifting Neck Warmer”:
She came to her Sunday evening knit lesson after attending a Baltimore Orioles game. Doesn’t she look cute with her Orioles “face paint”…she’s quite a fan!

She also finished the “Faithful Buttons Key Ring”
To celebrate the ending of summer and the beginning of fall, I am putting up the pattern that I designed for Faith to make. I am calling it the “Faithful Buttons Key Ring”

This key ring will "faithfully" help you find your keys in your pocket or purse.
Just feel for the buttons and you’ll find your keys!
You can download the pattern at:

And, Julie is starting an Apple Cap for a friend’s baby

Here’s an Apple Cap that Norma finished last year so you have an idea of what Julie’s cap will look like when she’s finished her Green Apple Cap

Mary Lou is plugging away on the “endless” sweater jacket (the fronts and backs are made at the same time so a lot of knitting goes on in the beginning of the sweater.  Luckily she’s reached the “home stretch”!

This is a picture of the sweater jacket that Mary Lou is making.  It’s a sweater that I designed several years ago.  The edging around the neck and body of the jacket can be fancy (like the one in this picture) or made with the same yarn that you knit the jacket with.  There are lots of choices.  We’ll see what Mary Lou ends up doing…

Summer is passing so quickly.  In fact, the first fall leaves have arrived!

I wanted more time sitting by the waterfall & pond that my landscaper son built for us.
The water lily in the picture was gone by the next day so I'm trying to really live in each moment, to savor the "Now".

My fall classes start in mid-October.  If you want more information about them, or to sign up,

Dear readers, is there someone in your life who has taught you how to do something that you love to do?  Have you thanked them or honored them in some way?  I’d love to hear from you about who taught you and what they taught.  Leave a comment on the blog or email me at notesfromknitclass@gmail.com .
Love, Mary
