December Hopes

A Holiday wish from Max, Mary, and Mittens

As I’ve been doing my Christmas gift knitting, I’ve pondered on all of the gifts that I’ve received this year: comfort during my illness and Max’s illness; wonderful times with my knitting students; the fun and creativity from new knitting patterns that have “arrived” in my head and tumbled off my needles (not always the way I expected them to…but that’s part of the wonder of knit design! ); my dear twin brother’s amazing walk out of hospice and back into Life and the Very Special twin birthday we celebrated in April; catching up with friends and family (through phone calls, email, Facebook, and various events); all that I learned from Pastor Doug who was called to another church in July and the trust I learned as I welcomed our wonderful new Pastor Laurie; our kitty, Mittens (age 15 years), who disappeared outside for a week and suddenly re-appeared which prompted acts of kindness from many individuals . All of these and more gifts that have come our way this year are the best Gift of all: Papa’s Love through other people. ( If you want to know who “Papa” is read the Shack. [http://theshackbook.com/ ] Not everyone has loved this book as I have, but that’s OK, it spoke to me and I’m grateful.)
As we each prepare for the upcoming holidays may each of us look back in wonderment at all the Gifts of Love that have come our way this past year...

One of the items I knit for some of my loved ones was prompted by wanting to give them a hug. So, I knitted a “permanent hug” that I call “Diamonds Warm Your Neck”.

Here’s a picture of my classroom “model”
Merry Mannequin wearing it:

And, as a special hug to all the wonderful knitters everywhere, here is the free pattern for it.

Dear readers of my blog, do use the wonderful gift of memories to sit quietly and remember moments of hope, love, and joy to sustain and warm you during long, cold winter days and nights.
Mary
